If you’ve been watching the news over the last few years, there’s been a distinct change that I’m sure you’ve noticed, but maybe haven’t exactly put your finger on.
Instead of just reporting the news or telling you about events that have happened, a majority of the news now isn’t really news at all. Instead, it’s a story or a headline instructing you what to believe and what not to believe.
Basically, every headlines boils down to some variation of “hey, don’t believe all that stuff you keep hearing, only stupid people believe that.”
It’s actually all very strange once you start to look out for it. If you don’t pay attention, it all may just feel as though the news media is looking out for you and making sure you don’t believe any false information.
But that’s not what they’re doing at all, and the proof is pretty easy to come by. If the media was simply trying to protect people from false information or rumors, they wouldn’t need to demonize the people they say believe in that false information. If the media was being honest, they would simply point out a widely held false rumor, offer proof as to why it’s false, and that would be the end of their reporting.
But that’s not how it goes at all. First, they start off by claiming only a certain type of person is fooled by whatever “misinformation” it is that they’re claiming. Generally, this “type” of person is one the media has agreed is bad. Whether it be due to political or cultural ideology, only people the media deems as “bad” fall for the information they claim is false. Nobody who shares the views of the mainstream media can ever be fooled or tricked apparently.
Next, the information they claim is false must always be framed in a way that shows it was created by a nefarious group, once again, a group the media believes is “bad”. It can be a certain group of Americans, or a forign power the media currently is pining for war against. But it’s always a so-called enemy.
And that’s really the proof that there is no good faith acting on the part of the media. Instead, it’s just a clever tactic they invented to smear and demonize those who disagree with them.
Reporting on false information that’s floating around doesn’t require you to demonize anyone who happened to believe it. For example, if a shooting just occurred and news reports indicated it was two shooters in a car, but later it turned out to be one shooter in a pick-up truck, nobody would demonize those who believed the original version. The news wouldn’t claim those who believed it were evil.
So the next time you’re browsing the news, look out for how much of it essentially boils down to “don’t believe what you’ve heard, believe us instead.”
Because that’s not news.
